In Magentrix instances that utilize our Salesforce integration feature, an error can sometimes be seen when trying to create or update records within imported Salesforce objects such as Accounts, Contacts or Leads: "REQUEST_LIMIT_EXCEEDED: TotalRequests Limit exceeded."
The reason for this error is that the limit of available API calls within Salesforce has been reached. When using Salesforce API, there is a limit assigned for the number of calls that can be made in any given 24-hour period. This is a revolving limit, meaning calls used will become available again in 24 hours. For example, calls used at 8am Monday will become available again after 8am Tuesday.
The most common root cause we find for this is that the instance of Salesforce is connected to another application in addition to Magentrix, and the other application has made many API calls in a short timeframe. To pinpoint the exact root cause if you see this error, you can ask the following questions:
- What is your current API usage limit in Salesforce? (How many calls per day can you make as per your licensing?) The default licensing allows for 15,000 calls per day.
- Are there any other applications connected to your Salesforce besides Magentrix that are passing information via API?
- If you have multiple applications connected to Salesforce and your API usage limit is low, we recommend contacting Salesforce support to see if increasing the limit will resolve the issue.
- If you have many objects used in Magentrix, if possible we recommend you review and remove any objects that you no longer use in your portal.
- Magentrix uses Scheduled Jobs to synchronize your data with Salesforce, which by default are set to run every 15 minutes for most objects. If you have many objects with a large amount of data, this can be taxing on the API usage. If you feel based on your amount of data that this may be a factor, we recommend reducing the frequency of the jobs for non-essential objects. For more information, see About Scheduled Jobs.
