Editing Business Plans
Administrators and channel managers can modify business plans, create business plan objectives, and target selected accounts. Selected partners can also edit business plans but cannot edit objectives.
Important Notes:- Partners can view and edit business plans with the Draft, In Progress, and Completed status
- Business plan objectives are attributed to respective quarters based on the record's 'Created On' date
- Partners can edit business plan information but cannot create or edit objectives
Requirements
To edit a business plan, users must be assigned a security role with one of the following permissions:
- Administrator System Role permissions
- All Entities, Business Plan: Edit: Yes
- Tab Settings, Business Plan: On
- App Settings: App with the Business Plan Tab must be Visible
Non-administrator users must be assigned one of the following permissions:
- Business Plan Owner
- Primary Partner User
Additional Requirements for Copying Business Plans:
- All Entities, Business Plan: Create: Yes
- Must be an employee user (Partners cannot copy business plans)
Editing Business Plan Information
To Edit Business Plans
- Navigate to the Business Plan tab
- Select a business plan from the list
- Click the dropdown arrow under the Actions column
- Click Edit
- Modify the desired fields in the business plan form
- Click Save Changes
Result: Business plan information is updated and available to authorized users based on the plan's current status.
Copying Business Plans
Deep Clone Business Plans
Administrators and channel managers can create complete copies of existing business plans, including objectives, attachments, and activities. This feature enables efficient creation of similar business plans for different partners.
To Copy a Business Plan:
- Navigate to the Business Plan tab
- Select the business plan you want to copy
- Click Copy button on the business plan record
- Complete the copy configuration form:
Required Fields:
- Plan Name: Enter a name for the new copied business plan
- Primary Partner User: Select the partner user to assign the new business plan to
- This selection automatically populates the Account and Partner Contact fields
Optional Settings:
- Clone Attachments: Check this checkbox to copy all attachments from the original business plan to the new plan
- Clone Tasks/Activities: Check this checkbox to copy all tasks and activities from the original business plan to the new plan
- Click Copy to initiate the cloning process
Cloning Process Details
What Gets Copied:
- Business Plan Information: All basic business plan fields and settings
- Business Plan Objectives: All objectives with structure intact
- Attachments: File attachments (when checkbox is selected)
- Tasks and Activities: All associated tasks and events (when checkbox is selected)
What Gets Reset:
- Actual Values: All actual performance values in objectives are cleared
- Primary Partner User: Set to the newly selected partner user
- Account: Updated to match the new partner user's account
- Partner Contact: Updated to match the new partner user's contact information
- Target Accounts: Not copied (must be configured separately for the new plan)
Process Steps: The copying process follows a sequential workflow:
- Business Plan Creation: Creates the new business plan record with updated partner information
- Objectives Cloning: Copies all objectives while clearing actual values
- Attachments Cloning: Copies file attachments (if selected)
- Activities Cloning: Copies tasks and events (if selected)
Process Completion:
- Success messages appear for each completed step
- Error messages display if any step fails
- Upon successful completion, you are redirected to the new copied business plan record
Managing Business Plan Objectives
To Add Business Plan Objectives
- Navigate to the Business Plan tab
- Select a business plan
- Select the Business Plan Objectives tab and click New
- Fill in the objective fields:
- Objective Name: Enter an objective name
- Description: Enter a detailed description of the objective using the rich text editor
- Business Plan: Auto-populated with the selected business plan
- Record Type: Select the record type (e.g., Simple Objective)
- Planned Date: Enter the planned date for the objective
- Status: Select the status of the objective (e.g., Approved)
- Type: Select the objective type (e.g., Custom). Additional fields will be available depending on the selected objective type
- Weight: Enter a value between 1 to 100 to set the objective weighting when calculating the business plan's overall progress
- Unit of Measure: Select the unit of measure (e.g., Quantity)
Quarterly Objectives Configuration
In the Quarterly Objectives section, fill in the target and actual values:
- Q1 Target: Enter first quarter target value
- Q1 Actual: Enter first quarter actual value (if available)
- Q2 Target: Enter second quarter target value
- Q2 Actual: Enter second quarter actual value (if available)
- Q3 Target: Enter third quarter target value
- Q3 Actual: Enter third quarter actual value (if available)
- Q4 Target: Enter fourth quarter target value
- Q4 Actual: Enter fourth quarter actual value (if available)
Click Save Changes
Managing Existing Objectives
To manage existing objectives:
- Navigate to the Business Plan Objectives tab within a business plan
- Click the dropdown arrow under the Actions column beside the objective
- Choose from the available actions:
- Edit: Modify objective details
- Delete: Remove the objective
- Clone: Create a copy of the objective
Managing Target Accounts
To Manage Target Accounts
- Navigate to the Business Plan tab
- Select a business plan
- Select the Target Accounts tab and click Manage Target Accounts
- To add a new target account, click Add Account
- Fill in the required fields for the target account
- Click Save
- Click Go Back to return to the business plan
Performance Tracking and Calculations
Update Calculations
Business plans include automatic performance calculation features:
- Refresh Button: Available on business plan pages to recalculate objective performance
- Overall Attainment: Displayed as a gauge showing progress toward plan objectives
- Quarterly Tracking: Individual objectives are tracked by quarter with target vs. actual comparisons
Business Plan Dashboard
The business plan detail page provides:
- Performance Gauge: Visual representation of overall plan attainment
- Plan Details: Comprehensive view of all plan components
- QBR Scheduling: Quarterly business review meeting dates
- Partner Profile Information: Key partner metrics and data
- Target Account Planning: Summary of target account objectives
- SWOT Analysis: Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats analysis
User Access and Permissions
Administrator and Channel Manager Access
- Full editing capabilities for all business plan components
- Can create, edit, and delete objectives
- Can manage target accounts
- Can copy business plans and configure cloning options
- Can update calculations and performance metrics
Partner User Access
- Can edit business plan information and details
- Cannot create, edit, or delete objectives
- Cannot copy business plans
- Can view objective information and quarterly progress
- Access limited to business plans in Draft, In Progress, and Completed status

- Strategic Copying: Use business plan copying to efficiently create similar plans for different partners while maintaining consistency
- Selective Cloning: Consider whether to include attachments and activities based on relevance to the new partner relationship
