Configuring Banner Settings

Administrators can customize Resource Collection banners to create visually engaging landing pages with custom images, headings, messages, and action buttons. Banner settings allow you to brand each Resource Collection and provide clear calls-to-action for users.

Requirements

To configure banner settings, users must be assigned a user role with the following permissions:

  • Administrator System Role
  • Resource Collection Manage Access

Configuring Banner Settings

  1. On the Setup Home page, navigate to Create > Resource Collections.
  2. Find the Resource Collection you want to configure and click the Actions dropdown next to it.
  3. Click Banner Settings.
  4. Configure the banner elements as described below.
  5. Click Save when finished.

Banner Display Options

To show or hide the banner:

  1. In the Banner Settings dialog, locate the Show Banner checkbox.
  2. Check the box to display the banner on the Resource Collection page, or uncheck it to hide the banner entirely.
  3. Click Save.

When the banner is hidden, users will see the Resource Collection assets immediately without any banner content above.

Configuring Banner Image

The banner image appears as the background for the banner section at the top of the Resource Collection page.

  1. In the Banner Image field, click the search icon to select an image from your document library.
  2. Select your desired banner image.
  3. Click Save.

Recommended specifications: The preferred image size is 1920x400 pixels. If no banner image is selected, the current theme's default banner image settings will be applied.

Configuring Banner Heading

The banner heading is the main text displayed prominently in the banner area.

  1. In the Banner Heading field, enter your heading text (e.g., "Welcome to your Asset Library").
  2. Use the Fields and Functions dropdowns to insert dynamic content if needed.
  3. Click Save.

The banner heading has a maximum length of 40 characters and will be displayed prominently at the top of the banner.

Configuring Banner Message

The banner message provides additional context or description below the heading.

  1. In the Banner Message field, enter your message text.
  2. Use the Fields and Functions dropdowns to insert dynamic content if needed.
  3. Click Save.

The banner message has a maximum length of 90 characters and will be shown under the headline within the banner slide.

Configuring Text Color

  1. In the Text Color field, enter a hex color code (e.g., #faf5f5) or click the color picker to select a color.
  2. Click Save.

The text color applies to both the banner heading and banner message text.

Configuring Action Buttons

Resource Collection banners can include up to two action buttons. Buttons are optional and can be configured independently.

To configure the first button:

  1. In the First Button Label field, enter the button text (maximum 30 characters).
  2. In the First Button URL field, enter the destination URL or use the Fields and Functions dropdowns to create a dynamic URL.
  3. Click Save.

To configure the second button:

  1. In the Second Button Label field, enter the button text (maximum 30 characters).
  2. In the Second Button URL field, enter the destination URL or use the Fields and Functions dropdowns to create a dynamic URL.
  3. Click Save.

Note: You can configure zero, one, or two buttons based on your needs. Buttons are not required.

Best Practices and Recommendations

Choose high-quality banner images that are professional and on-brand. Images with visual interest but minimal text work best, as text will be overlaid on the image.

Keep headings concise and impactful. With only 40 characters available, focus on clear, compelling messages that immediately communicate the Resource Collection's purpose.

Use banner messages to provide context. The 90-character message should expand on the heading and help users understand what they'll find in the collection.

Select text colors for readability. Ensure sufficient contrast between your text color and banner image background. Test with actual banner images to verify legibility.

Make button labels action-oriented. Use clear calls-to-action like "Ask a Question," "Register Deal," "Get Started," or "Contact Support" rather than vague labels like "Click Here."

Link buttons to relevant resources. First buttons often link to help resources or getting started guides, while second buttons might link to registration forms, contact pages, or related content.

Test banner appearance across different devices and screen sizes to ensure text remains readable and buttons are easily clickable.

Consider multi-language support. If your portal supports multiple languages, use the translation features available in heading and message fields to provide localized content.

Update banners seasonally or for campaigns to keep content fresh and relevant, especially for partner-facing or customer-facing Resource Collections.

Troubleshooting Tips

Banner not appearing: Verify that the "Show Banner" checkbox is enabled and that you've saved your changes.

Banner image not displaying: Ensure the image file is accessible in your document library and that users have appropriate permissions to view it.

Text not readable on banner: Adjust the text color to provide better contrast with your banner image background. Consider using darker images with lighter text or vice versa.

Buttons not clickable: Verify that valid URLs have been entered in the button URL fields and that the URLs are accessible to your users.

Character limits preventing full text: Edit your heading or message to fit within the 40-character (heading) and 90-character (message) limits. Focus on concise, impactful wording.

Dynamic fields not working: Ensure you're using the correct field references from the Fields dropdown and that the referenced fields contain data.

Changes not appearing: Clear your browser cache and refresh the page. Changes should appear immediately after saving.
