Sender Email and Custom SMTP

The sender email address is what recipients see in the From line of every notification and automation email your portal sends. You can either verify an address with Magentrix's email service, or route all outgoing mail through your own SMTP server.

Both live in Setup > Manage > Organization Settings > Application, in the Email Settings section.

Why It Is a Flow, Not a Field

The sender address cannot simply be typed in and saved. Magentrix sends through Amazon SES, which requires proof that you control an address before it will send on your behalf. The portal therefore walks you through a verification step, and a direct edit of the underlying field is rejected.

Until an address is verified, the setting reads Not configured.

Verifying a Sender Address

  1. Open Email Settings and start Change Email Settings.
  2. Enter the address you want to send from. An invalid address is rejected with Please enter a valid email address.
  3. Submit. Amazon SES sends a one-time verification email to that address, and the portal confirms Verification email sent.
  4. Open that email and click the verification link.
  5. Return to the portal and click I have verified.

Once confirmed, the portal reports Email verified and shows the address it will use as the sender.

If this happensDo this
The verification email has not arrivedUse Resend verification email. Check the spam folder - the interface prompts you to.
It looks like the email is not verified yet.You clicked I have verified before following the link in the SES email. Open the link, then try again.
You entered the wrong addressUse Use a different email. This discards the pending verification and you start over from scratch.

Verify a mailbox you can actually open. The link has to be clicked in the destination inbox, so an address that forwards nowhere, or a distribution list nobody monitors, will leave the change stuck as pending.

Using Your Own SMTP Server

If you would rather send through your own mail server, switch to custom SMTP with Use a custom SMTP server instead. You are asked to confirm, because you will need the server details to hand.

FieldNotes
SMTP ServerRequired. An empty value is rejected with SMTP server is required.
SMTP PortThe port your server listens on.
Use SSLWhether to connect over SSL/TLS.
SMTP UsernameAccount used to authenticate.
SMTP PasswordLeave blank to keep the current password when editing.

Save with Test and Save. The portal connects to the server before storing anything, so bad settings are caught rather than silently breaking your email. If the connection fails you get SMTP test failed with the advice to check the address, port, SSL setting and credentials.

Incorrect SMTP settings stop email being delivered. The portal warns about this directly, which is why the test runs before the save rather than after.

To go back, use Disable custom SMTP and switch back to Amazon SES.
