About the Carousel Module

Carousels are sliding banner components administrators use to surface announcements, campaigns, and curated content on partner and customer portals. A single Carousel can host multiple Slides, each with its own image, headline, text, call-to-action, and audience. Slides rotate automatically and can be navigated manually by end users.

This page is the administrator's overview. Detailed creation, sharing, and embed workflows live on their own pages.

Where Carousels Live

  • Setup home:Setup > Create > Carousels — the administrative list of every Carousel on the portal.
  • Carousel detail page: opens when you click a Carousel — shows the slide list, each slide's preview, drag-and-drop reorder controls, and the kebab menu (Edit Settings, Preview, Get Embed Code, Delete).

Where Carousels Appear on the Portal

SurfaceHow a Carousel Is Used
Engagement PagesWhen the Engagement Page's Hero Type is set to Carousel, the page picks a Carousel record as its hero. Different Engagement Pages can use different Carousels.
Customer Home PageThe customer-home layout supports a Carousel as a header banner. Configured on the home-page settings.
Active Pages (custom code)Developers can embed a Carousel anywhere in an Active Page using the embed code generated from the kebab menu.

Edit Slide

PropertyWhat It Controls
Slide ImageThe background image. Recommended size 620x400 px. All slides in one Carousel should share the same height; mismatched heights cause the carousel container to jump as slides rotate.
HeadlineThe main text overlaid on the image. Supports up to 40 characters and Custom Labels for translation.
TextOptional sub-headline shown under the headline. Up to 90 characters. Supports Custom Labels.
Text ColorColor of the headline and text. Use a color that contrasts with the image to remain readable.
Slide URLWhere the user is navigated when they click the slide.
Slide URL TargetWhether the URL opens in the same tab or a new tab. (if a Slide ERL value has been entered)
CTA LabelOptional call-to-action button label. When blank, the entire slide is clickable. When set, only the button is clickable. Supports Custom Labels. (if a Slide ERL value has been entered)

Per-Slide Sharing

Each slide has its own sharing settings, separate from the Carousel that contains it. Use sharing to show different slides to different audiences within the same Carousel.

  • By default a new slide is visible to all users.
  • You can restrict visibility to specific Security Roles, User Groups, or individual users.
  • The end user sees only the slides their Role or User Group has access to. The carousel adapts — if no slides match the user, the container is empty (the page renders without a hero).

This lets one Carousel serve as a portal-wide hero with audience-targeted slides, instead of building one Carousel per audience.

Multilingual Support

Headlines, text, and CTA labels accept Custom Labels. When you pick a Custom Label (via the Search icon next to those fields), the platform stores a reference to the Label instead of literal text. End users see the translated value for their preferred language, falling back to the master value if no translation exists. For the broader translation workflow, see Using the Translation Studio.

Use Cases

  • Portal-wide announcement hero. A single Carousel attached to the Engagement Page hero rotates through current announcements (product launches, scheduled maintenance, partner program updates).
  • Audience-segmented promotions. One Carousel with slides shared to specific Partner Roles or User Groups — Gold-tier partners see a Gold-tier slide, Silver-tier partners see a Silver-tier slide, all in the same hero.
  • Time-bound campaigns. Add a campaign slide for the duration of the campaign, then remove or hide the slide afterward. Faster than reconfiguring a hero per campaign.
  • Embedded inside Active Pages. Use the Embed Code action to drop a Carousel into custom-built Active Pages where the standard Engagement Page hero doesn't apply.
  • Content-strip layouts. Set Display Mode to Multiple and use the Carousel as a horizontally-scrolling content strip (e.g., featured Resource Collections or partner highlights).

Permissions and Limits

  • Only administrators can create, edit, share, or delete Carousels and their slides.
  • Headine is limited to 40 characters.
  • Text is limited to 90 characters — designed for short, scannable copy.
  • Recommended slide image size: 620x400 px. All slides in one Carousel should share the same height for smooth rotation.
  • No platform-imposed limit on slides per Carousel, but more slides means longer rotation cycle — keep counts reasonable for the surface (3–5 is typical for a hero).

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If a slide doesn't appear for a specific user, confirm the slide's sharing settings include the user's Role or a User Group they belong to.
  • If headlines render in the wrong language, confirm the field uses a Custom Label (not literal text) and that the language is enabled in Language Settings.
  • If the carousel container jumps height as slides rotate, the slides have mismatched image heights. Re-export at a consistent height (typically 400 px).
