Configuring Multi-Currency
Multi-Currency lets your organization record and display amounts in more than one currency. One currency is the corporate currency - the baseline, fixed at a conversion rate of 1.0 - and every other currency is converted against it.
Go to Setup > Manage > Multi-Currency. This is its own page, not a section inside Organization Settings.
Enabling Multi-Currency
The page opens showing your current status, either Multi-Currency is Active or Multi-Currency is Disabled.
- Turn on Enable Multi-Currency.
- Confirm when prompted.
- A corporate currency is created for you, based on your portal's currency locale.
Read the confirmation before accepting it. The portal warns that enabling multi-currency fundamentally changes how amounts are stored, and recommends keeping it enabled once on. Treat this as a decision to make deliberately rather than to try out.
Adding and Maintaining Currencies
The currency table lists Currency, Code, Conversion Rate, Decimals, Active and Corporate. Before you add anything it reads No currencies configured yet. Click "Add Currency" to get started.
- Add Currency creates a new currency with its code, conversion rate and decimal places.
- Edit a row to change its rate or decimals.
- Active hides a currency from use without deleting it. Inactive rows are marked Inactive.
- Set as default makes a currency the corporate baseline. The current one carries a Corporate badge.
- Update Rates fetches current rates from the configured provider.
Changing the corporate currency rewrites every rate. The new baseline becomes 1.0 and all other currencies are rescaled against it. This is not a per-row edit - check the whole table afterwards.
Updating rates from the provider overwrites what is stored. Any rate you tuned by hand is replaced.
A currency code cannot be changed after it is created. If you enter the wrong code, create the correct currency and deactivate the incorrect one.
How Amounts Are Displayed
Under Display Preferences, the option Display amounts in each user's preferred currency decides what users see:
| Setting | Result |
|---|
| On | Amounts are converted to the currency each user has selected on their profile. |
| Off | All amounts are shown in the corporate currency. |
Conversion uses the rates in your table, so out-of-date rates produce out-of-date figures wherever this is on.
Disabling Multi-Currency
Disable Multi-Currency turns the feature off. The portal warns that this resets the organization's currency code to your locale default, and confirms that existing currency records are preserved - so re-enabling later does not mean rebuilding your rate table.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause and resolution |
|---|
| The Multi-Currency entry is not in the Setup menu | Multi-Currency is not included on your plan. Check the Features list on the Subscription tab; greyed-out features are not active. Contact your Magentrix representative to add it. |
| The currency table is empty after enabling | Only the corporate currency is seeded on first enable. Add the others with Add Currency. |
| Converted amounts look wrong | Check the conversion rates, and confirm which currency carries the Corporate badge. If the baseline was recently changed, every other rate was rescaled. |
| A user sees amounts in the wrong currency | Check whether Display amounts in each user's preferred currency is on, and what currency that user has chosen on their profile. |
