Carousel Checklist
Use this checklist to plan, build, and roll out a Carousel end to end. Configuration lives at Setup > Create > Carousels. Each step links to a detailed article.
Requirements
- Administrator System Role.
- Slide images at a consistent height (typically 1920 × 400 px).
- Any Security Roles, User Groups, or specific users the slides will be shared with should already exist.
- For multilingual portals: the Custom Labels for headlines, text, and CTAs should be ready.
Plan
☐ Pick the audience. Is this a single announcement for everyone, or audience-segmented slides within one Carousel? Plan the per-slide sharing before you start adding slides.
☐ Decide Display Mode. Single-slide rotation (hero / banner style) or multiple slides visible side-by-side (content strip style).
☐ Choose the surface. Engagement Page hero, Customer Home, or embedded inside an Active Page. The placement may influence image sizing and content density.
☐ Prepare slide assets. Images at consistent height (1920 × 400 px recommended), headlines and CTA copy. For multilingual portals, define Custom Labels for any user-facing text.
Build
☐ Create the Carousel record Set Name, Slide Duration, Display Mode, and an optional Description.
☐ Add slides For each slide, upload the image, set Headline / Text / Text Color / Slide URL / Slide URL Target / CTA Label. Reuse Custom Labels for translated text.
☐ Configure per-slide sharing. If different audiences should see different slides, set each slide's sharing to the right Roles, User Groups, or specific users. By default, slides are visible to everyone.
☐ Order the slides. Drag and drop slides into the intended display order.
Attach the Carousel to a Surface
☐ Engagement Page hero. Open the Engagement Page, set Hero Type to Carousel, and pick this Carousel from the dropdown.
☐ Customer Home Page. Open the Customer Home settings and select this Carousel.
☐ Active Page embed. Open the Carousel detail page, click the kebab menu > Get Embed Code, paste the code into your Active Page's markup.
Test
☐ Preview the Carousel. From the Carousel detail page, click the kebab menu > Preview to see the rotation as users will see it.
☐ Test as a user from each shared audience. Use Login As (or a test user) for one user per audience segment to confirm they see the right slides.
☐ Test as a non-shared user. Confirm users outside the shared audiences either don't see specific slides or see the Carousel without them, as expected.
☐ Test slide rotation timing. If users will read the headline and text, verify the Slide Duration is long enough to read at a comfortable pace.
☐ Test on Mobile and Tablet. Slide images crop differently at narrow widths — confirm headlines and CTAs remain visible and legible.
☐ Test translations. If you used Custom Labels, sign in as a user whose language matches each translated label and confirm the right copy appears.
Roll Out
☐ Announce the change if user-facing. If the Carousel covers a major campaign, let partners or customers know what to expect on their next visit.
☐ Schedule slide updates. Carousels are typically refreshed regularly. Decide on a cadence (weekly, monthly, per campaign) and set calendar reminders.
